The Sunnyside Historical Society (serving Parkdale, Roncesvalles, Brockton and First Nations Villages) is holding an event covering the history of Sunnyside Beach. Once one of the major beach front amusement attractions for Torontonians during the 1920-1950s. There will be historical pictures, humorous skits and dramatizations.

The 4th annual Spring into Parkdale Sidewalk Festival! This season will introduce you to new businesses and re-discover some of the old gems; offering special deals, discounts, gift with purchases, come out & support our thriving business community. Step into places you’ve read about and never had a chance to discover like; Old Trunk Antiques & Contrast Living, Love & Greed and Passion for the Past, Glory of India and Himalayan Kitchen, BAND Gallery, West End Comics and Cadillac Lounge, Mata and Mother India, Parkdale Flea and 4 Your Hair Extensions, The Well, PARC and so many more!

Parkdale has so many incredible community organization’s, artists and crafters, and we’re excited to share the stage with them. Stay tuned for exciting local artisans presenting interactive fun for the whole family and weekly attraction and partner announcements. Ward 14 Environment Day – Apr. 23

Enviro Day

Ward 14 Environment Day is on Saturday, April 23rd from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Come out to Sorauren Park along Wabash Ave south of Dundas St W and join in to Reuse, Recycle, and Safely Dispose!

Bring your used or unwanted electronics, household hazardous waste, fluorescent bulbs, unused medications, batteries, propane tanks, and oils to be safely removed.

Please do not bring: construction waste, gasoline, garbage, wood, cassette and videotapes, commercial/industrial hazardous waste and scrap metal.

If you require a replacement Green Bin to last until the arrival of the forthcoming new bins can exchange theirs for a reconditioned replacement.

Donate to schools for reuse:
*    Yarn, knitting needles, sewing notions, buttons and keys
*    Children’s books, musical instruments
*    CD’s, CD cases, 35 mm cameras
*    Costume jewellery including broken, old watches
*    Arts and crafts supplies (pencils, crayons, markers, etc.)
*    Corks, cork boards, clipboards
*    Dress up clothing (costumes, prom dresses, uniforms, etc.)

Donate for reuse:
*    Sporting goods (skates, hockey equipment, bikes, rackets, etc.)
*    Books (excluding school/university curriculum books)
*    Eyeglasses, walking aids, hearing aids, etc.
*    Small household items (dishes, ornaments, kitchen utensils, artistic drawings, games, etc.)
*    Textiles in good condition (clothing, linens, etc.)
*    Non-perishable foods will be donated to a food bank

All donated items must be in very good condition.

Leaf compost (limited to one cubic metre per household) is available for pickup as well, while supplies last.

In addition to the above available compost, Councillor Perks has arranged for three (3) additional compost drop locations:

*    April 28th – Masaryk Cowan Community Centre; 220 Cowan Ave at 3:00 pm
*    May 14th – Indian Road Crescent Public School parking lot at 8:00 am
*    May 14th – The corner of MacDonnell Ave and Wabash Ave at 10:00 am

Public Meeting 57 Brock Ave. Development – April 21

Pre-Application Meeting for  57 Brock Avenue – The Beer Store location.

The developer of 57 Brock Avenue, Block Developments, will be holding a pre-application meeting to discuss their proposed plans for this site.

The developer is proposing a 7 storey residential condominium. Details will be available at the community meeting. Councillor Perks and City Planning staff will be in attendance. RMRA-Feb23rd
The RMRA for their upcoming meeting will be discussing the City’s plans for the intersection of King/Queen/Roncy. For Parkdale this is the Western Gateway into our neighbourhood. Public Planning Report & Forum – Feb. 27th

From Visions To Actions
This Planning Study Report is the culmination of the 1-year participatory planning and community visioning for the future of Parkdale organized by the Parkdale Community Economic Development (PCED).  The Report identifies  the challenges, opportunities, and promising directions in a range of areas in Parkdale – housing, decent work, local democracy, food security, culture and so on. This study report will be a basis of the Parkdale Community Plan.

Please come out to learn more about Parkdale and get involved in shaping directions for community action with your friends, neighbours, and colleagues!
