New Sign 153 Dufferin St. Consultation – April 13

The proposal is to erect and display one illuminated third party electronic ground sign, containing one sign face measuring 8.53 metres vertically by 17.07 metres horizontally and at an overall height of 22.86 metres above grade at the easterly portion of the property at 153 Dufferin Street adjacent to an existing warehouse building and directed towards the Gardiner Expressway. The single face on the sign is proposed to display electronic static images. Also contemplated is the removal of an existing third party roof sign at the subject premises and extending the expiration provisions for third party signs from 5 years to 10 years.

The feedback City Staff receive through this Community Consultation Session will help inform the staff report and recommendations, scheduled to be before PGMC on May 31st.  Everyone is invited to attend and participate in shaping our neighbourhood.

Town Hall on Affordable Housing in Toronto – Mar. 29

TOWN HALL ON AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN TORONTO

The Federal Government is taking steps to address affordable housing. The 2017 Budget includes an additional $11 billion commitment to the new National Housing Strategy – that means access to affordable housing in Parkdale.

Arif Vrani, event organizer and MP for Parkdale-High Park and Adam Vaughan, MP for Spadina-Fort York will be on-hand to discuss the Governments strategy for affordable housing in Toronto.

This is an opportunity for residents to share their perspectives on the need for affordable housing in Parkdale and beyond!

Exhibition Place Public Consultation – Mar. 8

The community is invited to attend  Exhibition Place Public Consultation Session to review the Draft Strategic Plan 2017 to 2019 that the Board of Governors of Exhibition Place has developed.

This is Parkdales’ opportunity to have input into how Exhibition Place will develop over the next few years. We need to maintain and preserve the open/green space, historical buildings and art works in this 192-acre city owned property by the Lake.

Milky Way Garden Visioning Workshop – Mar. 13

What: Greenest City & Parkdale Neighbourhood Land Trust (PNLT) will host a series of community consultations to collect input from local residents in order to redesign 87 Milky Way into a shared urban agriculture space for Parkdale. Planners and designers will use that input to create both an urban design and business plan for the space.

Visioning Workshop – Participants will be guided through a visioning process to capture needs, wants, and dreams, as they relate to the redesign on 87 Milky Way into a community space for urban agriculture.

Why/Background: The Milky Way Garden is a 7000 sq ft green space in our Parkdale neighbourhood (behind Parkdale Library). The land has been stewarded by a local ESL class and GC for nearly a decade, but until recently this was a temporary agreement with the private owners of the land. The PNLT will soon purchase this land, to secure a dedicated urban agriculture space for Parkdale. This piece of community owned land will continue to be used for urban agriculture activities, but will be redesigned to reflect the needs and desires of local residents.

Call For Mural Artists – Deadline Mar. 24

Parkdale artists are invited to submit a request for application to paint one of eight Bell Canada outdoor utility boxes in Parkdale as part of the 2017 Bell Box Murals Project.
Murals will be painted May 1 – 8, 2017.

Applicants will be sent more details of the submission process. Artists will be chosen based on their connection to the community, experience painting on outdoor surfaces, concept for the mural and a portfolio of past work.

Community Meeting 376R Dufferin St. (33 Acres Brewing Co.) – Mar. 1

Vancouver based 33 Acres Brewing Company will be holding a pre-hearing meeting to discuss their proposed plans for 376R Dufferin Street.

They are proposing to renovate the existing one-storey industrial building to include a craft brewery, retail store, restaurant and associated outdoor patio. These uses are currently not permitted at this industrial site.

Details regarding the proposed renovation will be available at the community meeting. Their Committee of Adjustment application is available on-line by searching the City of Toronto’s Committee of Adjustment – Development Application Centre – Reference # A1222/16TEY.

Since 1997 the Parkdale Village Arts Collective (PVAC), not-for-profit organization, has held more than 1,400 exhibitions with 800-plus artists and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. It’s helped the neighbourhood become an art hub for emerging and established artists alike with members from across Toronto.

King Street Pilot Study – Feb. 13

King Street is the busiest surface transit route in the entire City, carrying more than 65,000 riders on a typical weekday.

The King Street Pilot Study is about exploring bold, transformative ideas for how to redesign King Street in order to move people on transit more efficiently, improve placemaking and the public realm, and support business and economic prosperity.

The Study will explore a range of ‘pilot options’ that recognize the different neighbourhood contexts along the 6km corridor from Dufferin Street in the west to River Street in the east (the PRA has made sure Parkdale is included).

The pilot options will be analyzed and evaluated using a variety of transportation, transit, city-building, and economic perspectives. Consultation and engagement is a critical part of the King Street Pilot Study, and a variety of community and neighbourhood groups, businesses and BIAs, and other key stakeholders will be involved throughout the study.
