Parkdale Parkette Temporary Closure – Update from PQWCHC

Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre (PQWCHC) has announced the temporary closure of the parkette at 1229 Queen Street West. Fencing will be installed to restrict access while important remediation work is carried out, with the aim of reopening in the fall.

This decision follows months of growing challenges related to homelessness, substance use, and safety concerns in the neighbourhood. PQWCHC emphasized that, while the parkette has long been an important community space for the past 25 years, a temporary closure is necessary to allow for repairs and improvements.

In the meantime, PQWCHC is:

  • Expanding its breakfast program from 3 to 7 days a week (donations and volunteers welcome).
  • Strengthening outreach with the City’s Streets to Homes program.
  • Advocating for systemic solutions: more affordable housing, harm reduction supports, and healthcare access.

PQWCHC thanks the community for its compassion, understanding, and continued support as efforts are made to build a safer, healthier Parkdale.
