Black History Walking Tour of Parkdale – Feb. 22

BAND Gallery’s Black History Walking Tour of Parkdale

Date: Saturday, February 22nd 2025

Time: 2:00 PM (1-hour tour)

Starting Point: Toronto Public Library, Parkdale Branch

As BAND Gallery reintroduces ourselves to the community, we invite you to join us for a Black History Month Walking Tour of Parkdale in partnership with the Parkdale Residents’ Association.

This Anansi-inspired walk explores Parkdale’s fascinating past and presents its connections to Black and Caribbean heritage and how you make a home from home.

Our journey begins at the Parkdale Library, home to the Rita Cox Black and Caribbean Heritage Collection—the largest circulating collection in Canada, with over 16,000 resources celebrating Black and Caribbean stories. From there, we’ll walk through Parkdale, a microcosm of Toronto known for its eclectic charm and immigrant history.

From Dr Anderson Ruffin Abbott to the Weeknd, explore the layers of history that show how the people make Parkdale a hub of resilience, creativity, and cultural exchange.

Please dress warmly—think cosy layers, hats, gloves, and sturdy footwear.

Register! This event is free and open to all. https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/black-history-walking-tour-of-parkdale-tickets-1216705582149
